The couple instantly fell in love with this charming auberge, ideally located just moments from the centre of Foncine and the stunning countryside of the Haut-Jura. Julien and Jessica made this peaceful haven their home in June 2020 and since then, they’ve offered guests a typically generous and warm welcome.
Jessica, who grew up in a family of restaurateurs and graduated from the École Hôtelière in Poligny, just a few kilometres away, welcomes guests to the restaurant and the auberge. Having spent two years working at Le Chapeau Rouge in Dijon, a 4-star hotel which boasts a restaurant with two Michelin stars, she moved to the Alps to work at Hameau Albert Ier, a luxury 5-star hotel with a restaurant with two Michelin stars. It was here, in Chamonix, that she met Julien, originally from the Pas-de-Calais region and a graduate from the École Hôtelière in Le Touquet. Having worked as a chef in the region where he was born, he moved to the Alps to work as the maître d’hôtel at the restaurant of Héliopic Hotel, before working at La Maison Carrier, Hameau Albert Ier’s restaurant.
This dynamic couple began looking for a property which could welcome guests for a stay in the mountains at any time of year, serving gourmet cuisine with a contemporary twist, inspired by the north of France. With its mountains, its friendly locals and its culinary heritage, the Jura had everything they were looking for and it was here that they came across Auberge de la Rivière, instantly falling in love with this beautiful and typical property where they now welcome guests as friends.
